Nestled between downtown Durham and Chapel Hill, Rockwood, is one of Durham’s richest food communities. Cozy homes abound and here you're close enough to bike to the Durham Bulls ballpark or take a stroll to some of Bull City’s best food opportunities, here are several of our top picks:
- Wine Authorities: Boasting “cool whites and reds” sip while you’re there and take some home for dinner or a lazy afternoon.
- Saltbox Seafood: serving seasonal sustainable sourced seafood (wow that’s a lot of alliteration) from all over the Eastern Seaboard, their newest “joint” just opened across the street from Foster’s. With mentions in Travel & Leisure, Southern Living and Saveur, we’re suckers for their slaw and promise that whatever your choice, you won’t be disappointed.
- Guglhupf Bakery: An area go-to since 1998, we recommend the almond schnecke but arrive early on the weekends if you want to brunch it up, the line can be quite long (especially on a beautiful Spring day).
- Nana Taco: Described as a “thriving staple of quick, but quality cuisine”, we’ve never eaten anything here that we didn’t love wholeheartedly. Did we mention the kiddos adore it too?
After lunch, stop by “Pennies for Change”. Rockwood and the corridor leading towards 15:501 is an area full of great thrift and antique stores but we’re even more eager to spend when results go to a great cause like this one. Visit the DCRC’s website to learn more.
