Keeping It Cool

We know how it goes in North Carolina. Summer hangs on and on and on. You get some false starts on fall. Maybe you even take your sweaters out of storage (hope springs eternal), but we all know summer likes to stick around for a while. That’s why we’re bringing you a round up of the best ice cream spots to keep you cool in the Triangle. What better way to beat the heat than with a sweet treat?

The Parlour

It’s not summer in Durham without a trip to The Parlour. There’s nothing like the anticipation of seeing what flavors grace the day’s blackboard. With delicious dairy and vegan delights available by the scoop and pint, plus baked goods and milkshakes, there’s a treat for everyone.

Sugar Koi

When you get a sweet treat from Sugar Koi you have to remember - the camera eats first (Just kidding. Kind of. You’ll want to snap a pic). Founder Nat grew up enjoying homemade ice cream in Bangkok, Thailand. Located in Brightleaf Square, Nat brings you the “Asian Inspired” ice cream of his childhood in Fish Koiyaki waffle cones.

Rockwood Dairy Bar

Rockwood Dairy Bar opened in the spring of 2020 slinging pints and quarts of fresh-made ice cream. With a soda shop flare, you can stop by for a cup, cone, ice cream sandwich and more featuring delicious dairy and vegan flavors like watermelon mint and sea salt peanut brittle.

Simons Says Dip This

New to downtown Durham, Simons Says Dip This brings you dipped ice cream, half pound stuffed cookies, and freeze dried candies. Choose from 24 Belgian chocolate flavors to dip your cup or cone in and then choose from a variety of toppings to roll your ice cream in. There are hundreds of combinations.

Pelican's Snoballs

When it comes to cooling down in the summer, shaved ice is always a good idea. Pelican’s Snoballs has you covered with over 100 flavor choices. This franchise has multiple Durham locations making it easy to find this sweet treat.

Locopops

LOCOPOPS’ Dessert Cafe is located in Old West Durham and open for pickup and to-go. Their Mexican style frozen pops and ice creams come in dairy, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. Even better, you can buy ice cream by the pint or quart, enjoy milk shakes or ice cream floats, and they have coffee if you need a little pick me up.

Keep cool, Durham!
